Handwriting Screenings and Evaluations
This is a specialized service to assess children on their fine motor skills and writing abilities at school. Great for the preschool/Pre-K/Kindergarten aged child. Parents appreciate the insight into their child’s skills and readiness for handwriting. School provides service and location while parents sign up and make payment. Child screenings are 15 minutes. Each child will receive a written summary of their skills. This screening can also take place at clinic during office hours by appointment. $35 fee.
Usually for the 3-5 year old, this includes student evaluation session and parent interview (30 minutes). The assessment will consist of observation of handwriting sample and fine motor skills, a review of a writing sample provided by parent, and parent consultation following evaluation (15 minutes) with suggestions provided for individualized remediation plan. Assessment will determine the appropriate amount of tutoring needed on a weekly basis. $75 fee.

Group handwriting sessions
A handwriting group is different than the traditional one-to-one therapy experience. Handwriting groups are offered to provide small group instruction to help refine prewriting and writing skills. The Handwriting Without Tears program and kinesthetic learning will be used to promote the developmental learning process. Emphasis will not only be placed on pencil and paper but will include constructing letters with wooden pieces, identifying letters with vision occluded, and forming letters in different textures. Each child will learn important habits such as “top to bottom” and “left to right” which will assist in reading and writing. All classes are instructed by Katherine Gristina, MS, LOTR, C/NDT, a pediatric occupational therapist with extensive training in handwriting curriculums.
